North East of England Outport

About this Outport

The North East of England Outport covers a large area extending from The Wash in the South, to the Borders in the North, and the Pennines in the West. As such it incorporates the significant port areas of Humber, Tyne, Tees, etc.

The Outport hold Business Meetings four times per year in February, April, June and October, always on the third Monday of the month. The first two of the year are held in York, with the latter two being held in Hull and Newcastle. The meetings are engaging and cover a wide range of topics and discussions with members young and old.

Following our meetings we traditionally enjoy a three course lunch at our chosen venue, to which our guests are invited, and this is usually followed by a guest speaker providing an entertaining and informative talk.

Captain Martyn James

Outport Honorary Secretary for North East of England

I joined the Company in 2009 whilst still a cadet and have become increasingly involved ever since, stepping up to the role of Hon Secretary of the North East Outport in 2017, and becoming a Court Assistant in 2020.

Professionally, I spent almost ten years on cruise ships before coming ashore to become a Pilot on the Humber.  I'm also a part time lecturer at the Humber Maritime College.

Social Events

In addition to our regular meetings, we host a Christmas Luncheon at the Merchant Taylors Hall in York on the first Tuesday of December. This event is not to be missed as we are joined by the current Master of the Company, and it always proves to be a highlight of the calendar.
